Ubuntu then and now
It's been a long ride for the favorite Linux distribution of many. Since it's inception on 20th October 2004 it has hurdled many barriers and silenced many critics. That cannot be stressed more so in the recent years, with the development of its very own shell, icons and fonts and the canonical team keeps the users begging for more innovation and they heed our calls. Ubuntu 12.04 on an Acer Aspire SA85 Desktop

It's been a while since there's been a post and it's been a while since there had been anything about Ubuntu. So here is a small review of Ubuntu on an Acer Aspire SA85 Desktop PC A little run down on the system first. This is a PC I use at work and not a system I gave much shit about prior to installing Ubuntu. However the lack of system admin rights finally got to me (in a bad way). Lack of helpful computer administrators around to resolve mundane problems such as C drive filling up, virus ...

Canonical Design Team: System Settings for Ubuntu Phone

In late 2008, I sketched initial designs for what became Gnome’s System Settings utility. This centralized most operating system settings in a single window, without the need to reopen menus or switch between multiple windows if you didn’t find the setting you were looking for the first time. It made Ubuntu, and other Gnome-based systems, much easier to configure. Five years later, we’re bui...

Ted Gould: Application Centric User Experience

One of the design goals of Unity was to have an Application-centric user experience. Components like the Launcher consolidate all of the windows into a single icon instead of a set like the GNOME 2 ...
