try to delete its config files...
they are in ~/.config/screenlets
delete folder called NetmonitorScreenlet and file NetmonitorScreenlet.log
and it should be working

I can't find this config file, in any event, a colleague suggested 'Vnstat' which I decided to use.

Your 'Monitor' looks great but having 'Vnstat' operating in the background and out of sight suits me.

You are to be congratulated on developing an excellent 'screenlet' that is far more detailed and complex than it first appears. Thank you and thank you for your quick response and attention.

how you can't find it...? go to your home directory and turn on showing hidden files (in nautilus ctrl+h) and find folder named .config, open it, inside there are folder Screenlets, and inside it is folder Netmonitor which needs to be deleted...
(~/.config/Screenlets/Netmonitor)

Yes, I did find it eventually and did as you suggested to no effect. Nothing changes and I get only the up/down feed no totals. None of the 'effects' appear either.

I am willing to work with you because of the effort you have put into this program but I am happy with Vnstat for my needs.

sorry for this stupid question but did you right click on it and then click on toggle mini view?
I have no idea why else it isn't working... could you send me screenshot of it and does it write errors/warnings when you start it via terminal

When I right-clicked & toggled mini view, it worked! So while I don't remember doing it I must have done so without being aware. Perhaps when dragging it to a new location.

It is now doing what you said it would but with none of the theme 'effects'. I'm not much into 'eye-candy' so it may be my PC.

Thanks for a top screenlet!

 Monthly Totals- Upload high

by Kevbert on: Jun 3 2008

Score 50%

Hi. Excellent screenlet.
I'm using eth1 interface which is my Broadcomm BCM4306 based wireless card.
My monthly total download counter looks fine (approx 1.9Mb) but the upload is 151 Mb which seems very high especially seeing that I've only surfed a few webpages.
Please advise
Kevin.

download 1.9MB?? did you mean GB :)
when you are visiting page it doesnt only download, its uploading too (not much)... its normal to have 151MB of month upload even if you are not uploading by yourself...

Thanks for the prompt reply. No, I did mean 1.9Mb. Over the period of a day my download is 44.8Mb, but the upload is 1.1Gb! I even disconnected the router from the phone and one point and still got large uploads 'occurring'. I'm also running BOINC in the background, the clearweather screenlet and a few other screenlets, but would not expect anything like this. The important thing is that the download counter seems to be about right.

Hi. Tried that, still a problem. Almost immediately I restarted the screenlet the upload went to 1.6Mb, download 0. I'm using the screenlet manager 0.1 from screenlets.org and using drag and drop to install the downloaded file.

this could be because of transparent picture in background, try clicking on text or that blue globe icon and then move...

 Doesn't work with pppO

 by Justin79 on: Sep 2 2008

Score 50%

I have a Vodaphone e220 hsdpa modem (ppp dialer) and this netmonitor doesn't seem to support this. Does it only work on ethernet?
Is there not a netmonitor that can give me a monthly total of usage for ppp dialer type modems. Firestarter can record usage for only one session and doesn't give a reading for the month.
The ONLY thing stopping me from using Linux on a permanent basis is an accurate internet usage monitor that can give me a reading of internet usage per month. I'm limited to just 500mb per month and If I go over that limit I am charged a much higher rate so it proves very expensive.
There is another screenlet (PPPoe) that recognises (turns green) when I use my vodaphone e220 connection but doesn't record usage. Is there a way of getting netmonitor screenlet to work with PPP because this screenlet, if it worked with my type of modem would be the perfect answer to my problem so that I don't have to switch to windows every time I want to use the net.

it should be working with ppp0 device... it works for me... i am using pppoe conection too...

1st way
1)connect with pppoe screenlet
2)go to settings of this screenlet and setup ppp0 device...

because device ppp0 DOESN'T exist before connecting...

2nd way to setup ppp0 device:
1)turn off netmonitor
2)open /home/drxnele/.config/Screenlets/Netmonitor/default/Netmonitor1.ini
3)edit line dev=wlan0(or eth0...)to def=ppp0
4)save, close, start screenlet

as i write above when you are not connected to ppp0, netmonitor isn't going to show anything because then device ppp0 doesn't exist
(i'll fix this in next version...)
