What's this ?
Have Mac OSX like global menu in XFCE , with ubuntu appmenu plugin.
Currently only Ubuntu Oneiric is supported , otherwise please build from source directly.

Ubuntu Users
Official PPA is now available , for adding this repository , try:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:the-warl0ck-1989/xfce-appmenu-plugin

Afterwards , update your cache and install xfce4-appmenu-plugin by:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xfce4-appmenu-plugin

Required plugins:
sudo apt-get install -y indicator-appmenu appmenu-gtk appmenu-qt

Globalmenu for other applications
sudo apt-get install -y appmenu-gtk3 firefox-globalmenu thunderbird-globalmenu

Non-Ubuntu users:
The project is now hosted on https://gitorious.org/xfce-appmenu-plugin/ ,
lastest version depends on libwnck-1.0 for managing window events.

Depends on where you store your indicator plugin:
./configure --libexecdir=/usr/lib/xfce4-indicator-plugin/ --prefix=/usr

To make a Ubuntu package , try:
sudo checkinstall --pkgname=xfce4-appmenu-plugin --pkgversion=0.25-beta

To revert to initial release , try the following before packaging:
git checkout stable-1

Adding to XFCE Panel
This plugin is called Indicator Appmenu Plugin , can be easily placed into XFCE panel , see screenshot 2

Developer Preview
For now i'm trying to make whole thing more elegant , like hiding the title and make those window buttons
directly blend into the panel , just compile from the latest source code should work.

See screenshot 3 for changes.

Bug report
Please refer to launchpad page:

Known bugs:
Incompatible with indicator-session , it got disappeared somehow , still tracking

0.10 Initial release
0.20-beta: adding global Maximze / Minimize / Close buttons on top panel , it's working , but doesn't honor xfconf yet. ( Screenshoot-3 )

0.21 beta: automatically undecorate window when maximized , and those buttons only visible when active window is maximized

0.25 beta: honor xfwm'4 theme configuration and monitor its changes to act accordingly

 Keyboard shortcuts

Aaaron, thanks for rescuing globalmenu -- it is the only feature that worked all right in Unity, but since everything else was broken, I had to switch to xfce. It's almost back to normal again.

Say, do you have an idea why keyboard shortcuts wouldn't work? The last time I saw them work was in 10.04.

It's because i used GtkButton in the implement , and also roaming between 'em isn't working as well.

I'm already working on this , seeing if i can stimulate a menu with button groups , but it doesn't seems to be a workable way..

Previously i tried to put a GtkMenuBar widget onto the board , the menu disappears directly (But both shortcuts and scrubbing works ! ) , if the method above it's helping , i may have to patch appmenu , and the problem may be gone.

I'm way too busy now .. so i place possible solution here temporary

Thanks for the care , and sorry for the bug !

Xu12.04 64-bit AppMenu PPA Broken Dependencies

Hello Aaron,

I tried installing the XFCE AppMenu Plugin from your PPA under Xubuntu 12.04 (Precise) Beta 1 today, and Synaptic will not allow it to be installed because:

1.) It's marked as broken

-- and --

2.) It conflicts with itself.

Here is a copy of the dependency issues from apt-get:

-- The following packages have unmet dependencies:
-- xfce4-appmenu-plugin :
-- Depends: libindicator6 (>= 0.3.90) but it is not installable
-- Recommends: appmenu-gtk2 but it is not installable
-- E: Unable to correct problems, you have held
broken packages.

The available "appmenu" related packages in Xubuntu 12.04 Beta 1 are:

-- appmenu-gtk
-- appmenu-gtk3
-- appmenu-qt
-- indicator-applet-appmenu
-- indicator-appmenu
-- indicator-appmenu-gtk2
-- indicator-appmenu-tools

The available "libindicator" related packages in Xubuntu 12.04 Beta 1 are:

-- libindicator-dev
-- libindicator-messages-status-provider-dev
-- libindicator-messages-status-provider1
-- libindicator-tools
-- libindicator3-7
-- libindicator3-dev
-- libindicator3-tools
-- libindicator7

Do you think you'll be able to fix the plugin for Precise Beta 1 and upload it to your PPA?

Kind Regards,

One year after...
I tried to use this applet too without success...
there are some tricky dependencies.
I'm currently working on new applet to show title and buttons on the panel. If you are interested you can look here :

xfce4 and window menus inside windowck-plugin

Hello cedl38,
I have compiled from source the new plugin and it works very nice. However, I'd like to also see the menus of gtk2, gtk3 and qt applications, the same way it worked in globalmenu, appmenu, etc .

It would be great if that feature can be made available for the xfce4 project!

Keep the good work.
