Description:

Gnome15 provides a panel indicator (or applet), configuration tool, macro system and plugin framework for the Logitech G series keyboards, including the G15, G13, G19, and more. The intention is to provide the best integration with the Linux desktop possible, using the standard protocols and libraries where appropriate.

Written using Python, PyGTK and PyCairo, Gnome15 is easy to extend. You can either write Python Plugins that can optionally use SVG for theme support, or use DBUS API to add Gnome15 support to your own application . See the downloads page for a full list of pre-requisites.

Packages available for Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10, 11.04 and 11.10, FC14, FC15, FC16, Mandriva 2010.1, Arch, Gentoo and openSUSE 11.4 and 12.1. See main site for details.

Keyboards Supported
===================

* G19 - via G19D sub-project (see home page), PylibG19 or experimental kernel driver support.

* Z110, G15v1 / v2 via g15daemon or libg15 (possibly other models such as G11, G110, G13, up to date and patched g15daemon required). Kernel driver support for G15v1 now known to work.

G110 and G510 may work with patched g15daemon. G110 support via Kernel driver now available (feedback appreciated)

Plugins
=======

* Tails - Monitor log files
* Sensors - Temperature, Fans and Voltage
* IM - Shows current contacts (only works with Telepathy based clients such as Empathy at the moment)
* Mounts - Show available mount points, allows mount / unmount / eject
* LCDShot - Take a screenshot of your keyboard's LCD
* TweakGnome15 - Change some hidden settings of Gnome15
* Stop Watch - From our first plugin contributor Nuno Araujo. Features dual timers with count down / timer modes.

* Webcam - Simply allows v4l devices to be monitored.

* LCDBiff - POP3 / IMAP email notification. Intended for when you can't or won't use the Indicator Messages plugin.

* Indicator Messages. Replacement Ubuntu messages indicator applet, shows messages waiting from Evolution, Empathy, Pidgin, Gwibber and anything else that supports indicator messages.

* Menu. Displays list of available screens and allows selection. Activated by the MENU key on the G19, or L2 on the G15.

* G15Daemon (G19 only). Network server that acts like g15daemon allowing scripts and applications that use this protocol to work on a G19.

* Impulse15. Port of the Impulse screenlet and desktop widget. Adds a spectrum analyser.

* Panel. Reserves an area of the LCD for other plugins to add miniature components that are always available. For example, the mail notification plugin will add an envelope when there is mail waiting.

* Clock. Simple demonstration plugin.

* Cairo Clock. For the G19 only, a port of MacSlow's Cairo Clock. It renders any Cairo Clock theme on the LCD.

* Notify LCD. A notify-osd replacement for notifications. NOTE, this plugin currently tries to kill the 'notify-osd' process and take over notifications before notify-osd can restart. This doesn't always work. I will look for a better solution, but in the mean time, try killing your notification daemon manually before starting this plugin.

* Calendar. Integrates with Evolution to show a highlighted month calendar, and todays events. You can scroll though the calendar using the extended keys.

* RSS reader. Supports multiple feeds and formats.

* Screensaver. Detects when screensaver becomes active and dims the keyboard and displays a message. Warn off your foes!

* Indicator Me. Shows your current IM status.

* Volume monitor. Displays volume gauge when it changes. Currently uses Python ALSA bindings.

* Weather. Displays current outlook, temperature, pressure, a 2 day forecast and more. Uses Yahoo weather API or NOAA.

* System Monitor. Displays current CPU, Network and Memory summary.

* Now Playing. Displays current track information, progress and cover art. Supports any player that supports the MPRIS protocol (v1 or v2). This includes Rhythmbox, Banshee, Audacious, XMMS2 and more.

* Media Player. GStreamer based video player / audio player. Players all video formats supported by GStreamer, webcams may be used as video sources, and visualisations can be shown for all audio sources.

* Special effect. Adds two effects for cycling through screens, a slide effect and a fade effect. Due to the nature of the G15 monochrome LCD, the fade effect is more of a 'disolve', but it's quite cool anyway :)

* Wallpaper. Display any background image on the LCD. Image scale type may be selected. Option to automatically set the same background as desktop (currently GNOME only)

* Debug. Show internal information and provides a DBus API to aid debugging.

* VoIP. nitially supporting TeamSpeak3 only, this plugin will provide integration with various VoIP clients. Just enable it, then start up TeamSpeak3 (make sure you enable the ClientQuery plugin in TS3).

* Google Analytics. Monitor your web sites using Google Analytics.

* Display Resolution. Initially published on the forum, this has now been rolled into the release.

Could you tell me what distribution you are using. I have only used it on Ubuntu 10.4 and 10.10, so there may be issues with others.

You could also try this to see what the error is

1. Remove the applet from the tray and make sure the process has stopped

$ ps -ef|grep "g15"

2. Start the applet from the command line

$ /usr/lib/gnome15/g15-applet

3. Add the applet back to the panel

You should now see any start up errors in the console.

Thanks!

Ok, you'll need to install python-evolution (Python bindings for the evolution libraries).

This is used by the calendar plugin.

Future releases of Gnome15 will separate the core and the plugins.

I intend to release 0.0.3 this weekend, which will include amongst (many) other things improved build scripts.

After I installed all dependencies (you'd better create a How-To;)) I got the applet to work, but I can not see the icon and instead appears a white dot not clickable.

m7p m7p @-desktop: ~ $ ps-ef | grep "g15"
nobody 1074 1 0 15:57? 00:00:05 / usr/sbin/g15daemon
m7p 8909 1 0 16:12? 00:00:00 python / usr/lib/gnome15/g15-applet - oaf-activate-iid = OAFIID: GNOME_G15Applet_Factory - oaf-ior-fd = 27
m7p 8939 1 0 16:12? 00:00:00 python / usr/bin/g15-config
m7p 9039 8998 0 16:13 pts / 0 00:00:00 grep g15

Another small issue that I see is the autorun of rhythmbox.

Hm. Not sure what could be causing that. The only thing that comes to mind is the panel size. The applet tries to resize the icon to fit on your panel correctly. Perhaps it is getting that wrong. Regarding the HOWTO, it is on it's way ;) Also, version 0.0.3 will include a PPA so dependency problems on Ubuntu at least will go away!

> Another small issue that I see is the autorun of rhythmbox.

Version 0.0.3 will fix this. Instead of using Rhythmbox directly, it uses 'MPRIS' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Player_Remote_Interfacing_Specification). This also means Banshee, Audacious, XMMS2 and a few others will be supported as well (anything that supports MPRIS v1 or v2).

Thanks for taking the time to test this out :)

Regards,

TT

Hope that with ppa all my problems will go away! I try to modify the python script with another png icon (when all will work I'll start to do some icons for Faenza and Elementary theme ;)) and the problem is still here, a white dot not clickable! The size of the pannel is default, I try to expand and reduce it, but nothing change :(

Thank you for creating this.
The applet works fine for me.
The only thing is I get a orange background with black fonts. Is het possible to get this the other way arround and how do I do this?

Two things I'd like to see in the future :0)
A new mail plugin for Thunderbird
A plugin for Thunderbird's Lightning

Hi!

Glad you like it :)

1) "orange background with black fonts."

I am going to guess by this you have a G15 (version 2). If this is the case, it's good to know Gnome15 works with this model!

You *should* be seeing an "Invert" option in the first configuration tab (right click the applet and select Properties OR run g15-config) that will do exactly what you want. If this is not appearing, let me know and I will investigate further.

2) As for Thunderbird. If you are running Ubuntu 10.4 or above, you may want to try and look for some kind 'indicator-messages' integration (http://www.webupd8.org/2010/02/add-thunderbird-to-ubuntu-indicator.html looks like a possibility).

I would of course prefer that everyone uses this, as it would require no further work on my part ;)

However, I realise there is more to Linux than Ubuntu, so have planned a generic POP3 / IMAP plugin that will be available in the next version or two for everyone who cannot or will not use the indicators.

3) Lightning is a different matter as I have no experience with this application or what kind of API it exposes (if any). I am guessing you want something like the Evolution plugin to display tasks and events?

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Brett

Thanks for reacting so quickly.
1)The invert-option worked. I looked over this the first time. Everything works fine now. :0)
Yes I use a G15 version. Not the keyboard but the speakers (Z10)
2) Actually, I use FireTray. I don't like pop-ups and besides that, I like the notification stays visible even when I walk away from my computer.
I'm looking for sometime now for a G15 email-notification similar to the one the Logitech LCD-manager is showing in Windows so just a little envelope will do :0)
This WebUp8-thing is a pop-up and I've no idea how to get a notification in my G15 lcd-screen with this.
3) Yes that's exactly what I want. However, I never thought about this before I saw your Evolution-plugin this afternoon so I think I can live without it.:0)

Greets,
Willy

Fantastic!

Your source builds fine on a Debian Sid system but the package name leaves something to be desired :(
gmediafinder_0.8.2-0ppa3~maverick_all.deb

As a feature enhancement, I would love to see support for extract/encode to .ogg

Thanks for a great piece of software!
