Description:

Font Manager currently allows the user to:

* Preview installed fonts
* Compare fonts
* Easily activate and de-activate installed fonts
* Easily install and uninstall fonts
* Specify different directories to search for fonts
* Group fonts into "Collections", and easily activate or de-activate groups of fonts
* Export "Collections" to an archive for easy backup, sharing, etc.
* Provides quick access to all Gnome font utilities.

In the future Font Manager intends to allow the user to:

* Export "Collections" to a PDF "fontbook" (partially implemented)
* Edit font metadata
* Convert fonts to a different format

Before installing please make sure to read

http://code.google.com/p/font-manager/wiki/ReleaseNotes

For anyone interested in translating the application please see

http://translations.edge.launchpad.net/font-manager

Since Fedora/Ubuntu users can install Font Manager from the standard repositories I will only be providing source packages from now on.

Ubuntu users: If you haven't updated to 10.10 yet and you want the latest but you don't wish to compile from source you can try http://launchpad.net/~tldm217/+archive/tahutek.net

Changelog:

Update (0.5.7)

Allow sorting families by right-clicking. http://code.google.com/p/font-manager/issues/detail?id=42

Address an issue where selecting a collection causes unintended drag and drop effect. http://code.google.com/p/font-manager/issues/detail?id=41

Add font version field to the font information dialog. http://code.google.com/p/font-manager/issues/detail?id=40

Allow managing collections while in "Browse" mode. Enable browse mode by default.

Allow re-ordering while in compare mode.

Add family type filter to advanced search dialog. This uses Panose values and won't display fonts which don't supply them.

Use images which are friendlier to dark backgrounds. i.e. Ubuntu's default tooltips

Fix some i18n related bugs.

Add Launchpad translators to the credits dialog. Add Italian, Russian and Slovak translations. Translations are not enabled by default yet. Users wishing/willing to test and provide feedback should pass --enable-nls to configure.

As always the full changelog is at

If you are using the latest upload, please file an issue which includes the output you're getting when you compile the program, and when you try to run it.

I also need to know what distribution.

Without this information there is really not much I can do with your comment. ;-)

If you're not using the latest upload then please read my comment in the changelog and download the latest version then try again.

Is there a way to change the default pangram? I know it is possible to use costume text, but it would be nice to have a default pangram with äöüß, because i'm from germany.

Or, what about translating the application?

Thanks for your comments.

Font Manager now includes an option to ask Pango for a localized sample string and use that instead of the default pangram, this is already in SVN and will be available in the next release.

It's an option in the Interface tab of the preferences dialog and it's enabled by default. Thanks for your suggestion. :-)

As far as translating the program goes, anyone who would like to help on that front, or any other for that matter, is more than welcome to.

See http://translations.launchpad.net/font-manager
