Font Manager

Font Manager currently allows the user to:

* Preview installed fonts
* Compare fonts
* Easily activate and de-activate installed fonts
* Easily install and uninstall fonts
* Specify different directories to search for fonts
* Group fonts into "Collections", and easily activate or de-activate groups of fonts
* Export "Collections" to an archive for easy backup, sharing, etc.
* Provides quick access to all Gnome font utilities.


In the future Font Manager intends to allow the user to:

* Export "Collections" to a PDF "fontbook" (partially implemented)
* Edit font metadata
* Convert fonts to a different format

Thanks to Alessio Treglia, Font Manager is being pushed into the standard Debian repositories. At the moment, it's only available in the repositories for Debian Sid and Ubuntu Maverick.

The Ubuntu packages listed below are compatible with Lucid. If you are running an older version see http://code.google.com/p/font-manager/wiki/TestingSVN


The Fedora packages have been replaced with a PackageKit catalog, since Font Manager is now available from the standard Fedora repositories. Fedora users can simply "yum install font-manager" or download the catalog and double-click it to have PackageKit handle the installation. :-)

Address an issue where our window is still displayed at startup even
though both minimize on startup and minimize to tray are enabled

Address and issue where failure to load a font file causes startup to
abort with a useless error message.

Automatically try to move any customizations found in ~/.fonts.conf to
~/.config/font-manager/local.conf instead of simply overwriting them.
You should still edit local.conf directly and not rely on this.

Browse mode now displays disabled fonts and uses the same size setting
as the rest of the application, it also includes a size slider.

Added a dialog which allows mass renaming and deletion of files in
imported folders. This has to be enabled in the preferences dialog.
This feature has seen very little testing so... USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
